Excel Upload
Beta: Excel upload is currently in beta. Features and availability may change.
Upload an Excel file and BrandCast either parses it into a styled data table or converts each page to an image for display.
Accepted file formats
Section titled “Accepted file formats”| Format | Extension |
|---|---|
| Excel (modern) | .xlsx |
| Excel (legacy) | .xls |
| OpenDocument Spreadsheet | .ods |
| Comma-separated values | .csv |
How it works
Section titled “How it works”When you upload a spreadsheet file, BrandCast:
- Parses the spreadsheet data for table display.
- Converts pages to images for image rotation mode.
- Stores the processed content in your library.
Uploading an Excel file
Section titled “Uploading an Excel file”- Go to Content and open the Documents tab.
- In the Spreadsheets section, click Upload and choose your spreadsheet file (XLS, XLSX, ODS, or CSV).
- Once the file appears in the Documents tab, click Add New in Content Hub.
- Select Spreadsheets, then choose the file you uploaded.
- Choose a render mode:
- Data table — Parsed and displayed as a clean table
- Image rotation — Displayed as page images
- Configure display settings, save, and add to your playlist.
Data table settings
Section titled “Data table settings”| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Columns | Which columns to include |
| Column mappings | Rename or format columns for display |
| Max rows | Maximum rows shown |
| Show headers | Display column header row |
| Alternate row colors | Zebra-stripe rows for readability |
| Sheet index | Which sheet tab to read |
- Keep spreadsheets simple for best results — basic rows and columns with headers convert most reliably.
- Use the column filter to hide internal data that isn’t meant for public display.
- Column mappings let you rename “SKU_CODE” to “Item Code” for a cleaner display.
- To update, upload a new version of the file.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Formulas are evaluated at upload time. Dynamic formulas won’t recalculate on screen.
- Charts and graphs embedded in the spreadsheet won’t render in data table mode (use image rotation instead).
- Merged cells and complex formatting work better in image rotation mode.
- Very large files may take longer to process.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Upload failed. Verify the file is a valid XLS, XLSX, ODS, or CSV file. Very large files may time out — try reducing the data set.
Table looks wrong. Complex formatting, merged cells, and multi-row headers may not parse correctly in data table mode. Switch to image rotation mode for visually complex spreadsheets.
Wrong sheet is showing. Change the Sheet index setting to select a different tab from the workbook.
