Spreadsheet tables
Spreadsheet Tables display your spreadsheet data as a clean, styled table on any screen. Connect a Google Sheets file or upload an Excel file, and BrandCast renders the data with alternating row colors and clear column headers. Any update to your spreadsheet shows up on your display automatically.
This is different from the standard Google Sheets display, which shows a live view of the sheet as it appears in the editor. Spreadsheet Tables format your data into a polished table designed to be read from across the room.
How to set it up
Section titled “How to set it up”- Go to Content and open the Documents tab.
- In the Spreadsheets section, click Connect Google to link a Google Sheet, or click Upload to upload a spreadsheet file (.xlsx, .xls, .ods, or .csv).
- Once the spreadsheet appears in the Documents tab, click Add New in Content Hub.
- Select Spreadsheets.
- Choose your spreadsheet, select which sheet to display (if the file has multiple tabs), then configure display options.
- Click Create.
Configuration options
Section titled “Configuration options”Sheet — If your file has multiple tabs, choose which one to display. The first sheet is used by default.
Maximum rows — Set how many rows to show. If your sheet has more rows than this limit, only the first rows appear. The default is 20 rows.
Show column headers — When on, the first row of your sheet is treated as a header row and displayed at the top of the table in a distinct style. Turn this off if your data doesn’t have a header row.
Alternating row colors — Makes every other row slightly different to improve readability. Recommended for tables with many rows.
Tips for better tables
Section titled “Tips for better tables”- Keep your spreadsheet data clean — avoid merged cells, blank rows, or extra formatting. Spreadsheet Tables work best with simple, flat data.
- The first column usually carries the most important information (like a name or ID). Put it on the left where it will be most visible.
- If your sheet has many columns, consider which ones are most useful to display. You can create a separate tab with only the columns you want shown.
- For frequently updated data like sales numbers or inventory levels, the table refreshes automatically as your spreadsheet changes.
Supported file types
Section titled “Supported file types”| Source | Details |
|---|---|
| Google Sheets | Any sheet in your Drive you have view access to |
| Excel (.xlsx, .xls) | Upload directly — re-upload to update |
| OpenDocument (.ods) | Upload directly — re-upload to update |
| CSV (.csv) | Upload directly — re-upload to update |
Note: Uploaded Excel files are static — changes to the original file on your computer don’t sync automatically. Re-upload the file to update the display. For automatic sync, use Google Sheets instead.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Columns are cut off. Your sheet may have more columns than fit on screen. Consider creating a filtered tab with only the columns you need, then connect to that tab instead.
The table is not updating. For Google Sheets, verify your Google account is still connected in the Documents tab (Content Hub). For Excel uploads, you need to re-upload the file after making changes.
